Published on: 8/5/08.

TODAY'S BRILLIANT climax to Crop–Over 2008 was free of any major incidents.

Police Public Relations Officer Station Sergeant Anthony Depeiza told the Press tonight at the police's Exmouth Gap command post, that they were "generally satisfied with the security arrangements" for Grand Kadooment.

"We have had no major incidents being reported as a result of Kadooment Day activities. We're satisfied with the level of co-operation that we've seen exhibited by not only those persons who were involved in the bands, but also those people, the onlookers, and we are satisfied that we generally had a very good Crop–Over and we haven't had any major incidents reported throughout the entire season and for that we are very pleased," he said.

He said that "one minor skirmish" was reported and said it had been dealt with "and we are satisfied with the action taken".

The Barbados Fire Service reported a quiet day with no fires being recorded.

Meanwhile the National Cultural Foundation is still tallying the actual number of revellers who jumped in the 25 registered bands. Its corporate communications specialist Wayne Simmons said he understood that the numbers had fallen off and some bands had merged with others to augment the numbers.

However, he stated that there were no reports of any disturbances and only a few revellers fell ill at the National Stadium due to dehydration. (DS/MB)
