NIFCA GALA GLORY Each year in the National Independence Festival of Creative Arts, the prestigious Governor General's Award of Excellence is keenly contested in the categories of dance, drama, music, literary, visual and culinary arts, film and photography. The top award is presented to two participants, who must also achieve gold for their entries, and has traditionally been won in the traditional areas of the arts. This year, however, the Governor General's Award Of Excellence went to entries from the more diverse genres of culinary arts and visual arts. Michelle Maloney, executive chef at Bagatelle Great House, a NIFCA winner every year since 2003, finally carried off the top prize. Also sharing in the glory was sculptor and artist Gloria Chung, who carried off the other Governor General's Award Of Excellence, for her ceremic entry in the Fine Craft competition.
