Mixed fortunes for Chargers
Published on: 11/20/08.

PLAYING AWAY from their fortress at Hill Road, British American Insurance Chargers almost suffered a double loss when they played home team O-Aces when the Goddards Enterprises Limited Division Two Volleyball League continued Tuesday night at Free Hill.

Firstly, Chargers women were stunned by O-Aces in straight sets, 21-25, 18-25, to lose pace with Sentry Insurance Brokers Deacons.

Prior to that game Chargers' lone loss was to Deacons.

Chargers men were then forced to dig deep to repel O-Aces men in five sets, 25-16, 16-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-12. Shawn Seales seemed unstoppable in the early skirmishes as he tormented Chargers' net and ground defence.

The hyper Terry Mason maintained the edge for Chargers who continued to make simple errors.

During the match Roger Stoute compounded a night of mistakes by colliding with his setter Shawn Gibson who was left writhing on the sidelines as Chargers then struggled to fill the breach.

However, when Gibson returned to shore up the offence, former national player Michael Brathwaite and Mason were able to lead a revival of spiking and blocking defence to shut down Seales at the critical juncture for Chargers to edge home in the fifth set. (KB)
