Mental health the priority on Friday
Published on: 10/6/08.
FRIDAY IS BEING observed around the world as World Mental Health Day and to mark the occasion, a week of activities has been planned by the Outreach Committee of the Psychiatric Hospital.
Under the theme Making Mental Health A Global Priority, the week started yesterday and will end on Friday.
According to coordinator and Nursing Sister Althea Clarke, the theme helps to bring awareness to the fact that living in a global village calls for an understanding of what constitutes good mental health and mental ill-health among people of all diversities and cultures, who will bring with them.
She added: "We need to be more sensitive and understand that any of us can become mentally ill; try to get help for others rather than make fun at them and tell yourself that it can be me at any point in time."
The week will also see visits to primary and secondary schools tomorrow and Thursday; Wednesday is patient and staff sports day, at the hospital at Black Rock.
For World Mental Health Day on Friday there will be an open day at the Psychiatric Hospital beginning at 10 a.m. bringing the curtain down on activities for the week. (BGIS)
